The key for making your fall decor last from Halloween until Thanksgiving is making it versatile. You want to be able to easily integrate Halloween decor and then remove it when November rolls around—without your porch looking like something is missing.

FALL DECOR

Let’s start with fall decor—essentials usually include a cute doormat, a festive wreath, pumpkins and some fresh flowers. Mums and marigolds bring in those organic fall colors. These are all things that can be easily integrated with spooky decor, while also transcend the Halloween holiday.

Halloween Decor

I am not a fan of overtly scary, trendy or inflatable decor. When I invest in any decor, I want it to last for years to come. What screams Halloween quite like bats, skeletons and spider webs? One of my biggest tips is to focus on a few decor items, instead of a lot of different things. This ensures the decor looks put together and cohesive, rather than cluttered.

QUICK TIP:

Swap out your doormat for an instant decor style change—if you have a Halloween themed doormat, swap it out with a fall mat after the holiday.

FRONT DOOR REFRESH

If you’ve been thinking of making a change to your home’s exterior, a seasonal change is the perfect opportunity to maximize on the impact. I took this as an opportunity to give mine a little refresh! What started as a new paint color for the front door, turned into an entire porch transformation.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR MUMS ALIVE!

When you get home with your plants, soak the flowers in a bucket of water for 30 minutes to an hour. Mums soak up water better from the root, so instead of planting the mums in your pots, place them inside your pot in their original container. When they feel light, they need watering. Re-soak for another 30-60 minutes.
