DIY Christmas Paper Roll Sign
I have a wall-mounted paper roll that I have loved using for fun signage and I totally envisioned using this above the mantle as apart of our Christmas decor. I was super bummed when I realized the scale of the roll was way off—it would have looked super dinky up there. Then it clicked—I had a large roll of leftover kraft paper that I had used to protect the hardwood floors when I did the mortar wash on the fireplace. This “Merry Christmas” paper roll sign turned out to be a super easy DIY and required on a few materials!
Tools & Materials Used:
- Kraft Paper Roll (3ft)
- Cotton Cord
- Leather Strap
- Pencil + Eraser
- Sharpie Pen
- Ruler and Measuring Tape
- Scissors
Step 1
Roll out your paper and roughly determine the length of your sign. Then you can map out your design or lettering. I used this 3ft Paper from Lowe’s, which I thought was the perfect width for my space. Use pencil first and then trace it with sharpie.
Step 2
Thread the cord through the roll. Although I bought two different kinds of material for hanging, I ultimately went with this Cotton Macrame Cord from Michaels. I left some extra length that I knew I could hide inside the roll, so I would be able to play around with the height of the sign. Tie it off tight and hide your knot inside the roll.
Step 3
Find the placement of your sign on the wall before screwing or nailing. Depending on the weight of your paper roll, you may want to use use an anchor. I just used a wood screw since I was securing it to wood paneling.
Step 4
After hanging your sign, you’ll need to install the leather strap. I found this Leather Strap from Michaels that was the perfect length. Mark your nail points on either side—you’ll want to make sure this is level, because it will be obvious from across the room if it is not. Secure on both sides with a small nail. This strap will hold the bottom of your paper in place!
Step 5
Trim off any excess paper from the bottom and you’re done! Enjoy your new holiday decor and use again and again as a fun piece of signage in your home.
This was such an easy sign to make that I know we’ll end up using for different occasions above our mantle. Let me know if you try this DIY and tag me on Instagram (@the.rhino.home), I’d love to see!
