Using Ornamental Moulding in Wainscoting
In Fall 2023, I transformed Isla’s bedroom for the One Room Challenge. What was bare textured walls became bold board and batten wainscoting, paired with warm wood, gold and blush tones. I was blown away by their assortment of ornamental moulding and wanted to share my favorites with you!

Types of Moulding Offered
Decorative moulding can be used in so many different ways. I used the narrow reeded ornamental moulding as a fun, decorative touch to this wainscoting. However, there are so many beautiful styles of moulding to fit your personality. Their moulding is available in white hardwood and ambrosia maple. But, what’s the difference?
White Hardwood is “ready to be primed and painted in any color to display the depth of the pattern detail to perfection”. For that reason, I chose white hardwood for my project. Whereas, Maple Ambrosia “has many naturally beautiful colors ranging from creamy whites to dark and moody grays and blacks, which can all be mixed throughout a single board. It also has other great characteristics like natural worm holes and small tight knots that represent the natural growth of a tree and bring rustic beauty to your home”. Naturally, I think the maple ambrosia would be best left natural or stained.

With their superior quality and design, the creative possibilities are endless with their ornamental moulding. In fact, I’m already looking ahead to other projects where I can add in touches of moulding to give it that extra detail. I have to say, it has totally transformed the board and batten wainscoting in Isla’s room. What I originally planned was, well, ordinary. But, it is definitely one of a kind extraordinary (cue the chef’s kiss)!
